Anti-apoptotic effects of diosgenin on ovariectomized hearts
2022, SteroidsCitation Excerpt :The more activated FasL/Fas-mediated and mitochondria-initiated apoptotic pathways after bilateral ovariectomy can be attenuated via oral administration of diosgenin (Fig. 6). The middle-aged ovariectomized rats have the potential to be a good menopausal animal model [31], as the changes in biochemical and physiological functions [i.e., decreased levels of progesterone and estrogen [32], increased risk of cardiovascular diseases [33], and enhanced rate of bone loss [34] are comparable to those in menopausal women [35]. Bilateral ovariectomies not only deplete female hormonal system but also impact physiological regulation.
Cardioprotective effects of aqueous Schizandra chinensis fruit extract on ovariectomized and balloon-induced carotid artery injury rat models: Effects on serum lipid profiles and blood pressure
2011, Journal of EthnopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Our results demonstrated that five weeks of treatment with either E2 or ScEx in OVX rats significantly attenuated systolic blood pressure. Previously, estrogen treatment in hypertensive animal models was associated with a significant reduction in the degree of hypertension (Hoeg et al., 1977; Sharkey et al., 1999; Peng et al., 2003) and reversed the deleterious effects of ovariectomy (Scheuer et al., 1987). Si and Liu (2008) reported that dietary administration of genistein improved arterial blood pressure in SHR.
17 Beta-Estradiol Differentially Affects Left Ventricular and Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy Following Myocardial Infarction and Pressure Overload
2008, Journal of Cardiac FailureCitation Excerpt :In a prior study, we observed that E2 treatment resulted in greater LV remodeling and myocyte hypertrophy 6 weeks after MI. These findings are in contrast to the effects of E2 treatment on LV remodeling reported in pressure overload models.6–8 The discrepancy among these studies could be the result of experimental variations such as differences in species/strains, E2 administration or dose, animal age, or operator techniques.
