TABLE 1

Effect of continuous infusion of thiorphan into the hippocampus on endogenous Aβ40 and Aβ42 in rats

Values are the means ± S.E.M. for four to five animals. The rats were decapitated on day 27 after the start of thiorphan infusion, and the amounts of Aβ40 and Aβ42 in discrete brain regions were determined. Results with one-way ANOVA on Aβ40 and Aβ42 levels in the hippocampus were as follows: soluble Aβ: Aβ40, F(2,12) = 2.04, p = 0.17; Aβ42, F(2,12) = 3.06, p = 0.08; insoluble Aβ: Aβ40, F(2,11) = 20.48, p < 0.01; Aβ42, F(2,11) = 7.04, p < 0.05; total Aβ: Aβ40, F(2,11) = 19.31, p < 0.01; Aβ42, F(2,11) = 6.05, p < 0.05.
