Characteristics of experimental groups: body weights and plasma lipid profiles of mice prior to sacrifice Treatment with COOH decreased total cholesterol in the db/+ (***, P < 0.001) and triglycerides in all other animal groups (**, P < 0.05; *, P < 0.01; ##, P < 0.05). Malondialdehyde levels (MDA; a marker of lipid peroxidation) did not show statistically significant differences between groups when normalized to total cholesterol.
