Histologic grading of edema and infiltrate of inflammatory cells was based on the following scale: 0, absent; 1, mild; 2, moderate; 3, severe. Grading of vacuolization was based on the approximate fraction of cells involved: 0, 0–25%; 1, 25–50%; 2, 50–75%; 3, 75–100%.
