Values are mean ± S.E. Histological scores and MPO activity are obtained from six animals in each group. The numbers of muscle strips used to obtain the cross-sectional area are as follows: HLA-B27 rats (n = 20 jejunal and n = 18 colonic strips) and Fisher 344 rats (n = 18 jejunal andn = 18 colonic strips).
