Masculine-like plasma growth hormone profiles were restored to hypophysectomized male rats by administering rGH in six daily pulses, once every 4 h, through an external pump attached to an indwelling atrial catheter (Pampori et al., 1991a). Various concentrations of rGH (μg/kg b.wt.) were infused per pulse (column 1) to replicate 0 to 100% (column 2) normal pulse parameters. After 7 d of GH replacement, the rats were euthanized and necropsied. Values are means ± S.D. for at least six rats.
↵2-150 P < .01 compared with the intact male rats.
† P < .01 compared with the vehicle-treated (0%) hypophysectomized male rats.
