Five mice were injected s.c. with acetic acid alone, CII dissolved in acetic acid, or CII emulsified with acetic acid plus CFA on day 0. Fifty microliters of PBS alone or 50 μl of PBS containing 1 mg/ml of DEP were intranasally administered every 2 days from days 0 to 20. The animals were killed on day 25 and IFN-γ, IL-2, and IL-4 secreted from spleen cells were measured as described in Materials and Methods. Values are the mean ± S.E.M. of quadruplicate cultures of cells pooled from five mice. Data are representative of three experiments.
