Rats were treated with saline or amphetamine, and midbrain RNA was isolated at the time points. TH mRNA and GAPDH mRNA were measured using RT-PCR. The TH PCR product was produced using 21 cycles, whereas the GAPDH PCR product was produced using 19 cycles.
