The reaction mixture contained microsomes (200 μg), 300 μM acetaldehyde and 10 mM NADPH or 1.7 mM NAD+ in a final volume of 100 μl, which was incubated for 15 min at 37°C in 0.1 M Tris-acetate buffer, pH 7.2. Results are expressed as nanomoles per minute per milligram of protein and are from five experiments in duplicate (mean values ± S.D.). The NADPH/NAD ratios are expressed as percent.
