The potency of hellebrin, hellebrigenin, hellebrigenin monoacetate and hellebrigenol monoacetate has been compared with desgluco-hellebrin in etherized cats. Hellebrin is less active than desgiuco-hellebrin. Unexpectedly the aglycone hellebrigenin is more potent than either hellebrin or desgluco-hellebrin. Hellebrigenin monoacetate is more active than hellebrigenol monoacetate, and it is the most potent cardiac product so far studied. 2. Hellebrin, hellebrigenin and its monoacetate, and hellebrigenol monoacetate, all produce vomiting in pigeons and cats, and cause contractions in smoothmuscle organs. 1950 by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics
