In mice and rats up to 37 per cent of the administered dose could be recovered largely in the free form. In the other species from 3 to 20 per cent was recovered chiefly as conjugated histamine. Rabbit and pigeon liver slices in vitro were capable of conjugation of histamine. Conjugation was also obtained with a cell free extract prepared from an acetone powder of pigeon liver; with this preparation it was shown that coenzyme A is required for the process. ER -
