AB The effect of therapeutic doses of chloral hydrate, bromural, pentobarbital sodium, and paraldehyde on the motility of the human stomach was studied. Consistently increased motility was found only with pentobarbital sodium, indicating that sedation is not the principal factor responsible for the decreased emptying time seen with certain central nervous system depressants (barbiturates).
