The bronchodilator effect of five homologues of epinephrine is described. 2. The N-isopropyl homologue, 1-(3', 4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-isopropylaminoethanol, was found to be the most effective bronchodilator. The removal of the alcoholic hydroxyl from the beta-carbon, to form 1-(3', 4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-aminoethane, resulted in a very great reduction in activity. 3. The branching of the N-alkyl group appears to markedly reduce toxicity. 4. The structural requirements important for effective bronchodilator activity are discussed. 1946 by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics ER -
