The compound is poorly absorbed in most species, particularly man, and therapeutic blood levels have not been achieved except in the rat. The excretion of the drug in man is preceded by a process of conjugation with a carbohydrate radical and since this occurs in the N4 position, the resulting compound is practically devoid of antibacterial action. The conjugation appears to be of a type not previously reported. The exact structure of the conjugate has not been established. 1947 by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics
