A pharmacodynamic and toxicologic investigation of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde semicarbazone has been made in several species of animals. 2. In quantities, indicated by bacteriological studies as therapeutic, the compound appears to be tolerated without symptoms. Toxic doses produce hyperexcitability of the central nervous system in the rat. 3. In vitro, 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde semicarbazone diminished the activity of tissue dehydrogenases. 4. Preliminary ingestion trials in man have been recorded.
