Sulfonamide-fast mycobacteria produce large amounts of diazotizable material and the development of drug-fastness does not appear to depend upon the change in permeability or binding of the sulfonamide to the bacterial cells. Mycobacteria killed by various techniques are demonstrated to bind more sulfonamide than do living organisms and the possible significance of this observation is discussed.
