BUTLER YR 1940 UL http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/69/3/229.abstract AB By reaction of chloral with d- and with l-arabinose, four isomeric arabinochloraloses (two pairs of antipodes) have been obtained. The four compounds have been tested as anesthetics in mice. α-l-Arabinochloralose is much more active than its antipode. β-d-Arabinochloralose is somewhat more active than its antipode. The significance of the unequal activity of the antipodes in relation to the theories of narcosis is discussed.
