The four compounds have been tested as anesthetics in mice. α-l-Arabinochloralose is much more active than its antipode. β-d-Arabinochloralose is somewhat more active than its antipode. The significance of the unequal activity of the antipodes in relation to the theories of narcosis is discussed.
