This is followed by a late rise above the initial level. 2. Morphine depresses or abolishes the spinal reflexes of the chronic spinal cat. This depression of the cord is observable in animals which show marked augmentation of the reflexes and responses in the normally innervated portions of the body (above the level of transection). 3. Morphine does not cause a discharge of the sympathetic system in the chronic spinal cat.
