The spleen is therefore not essential for these changes in this animal. In addition to other evidence the disproportionate increase in the different cell elements indicated that "blood concentration" is not an adequate explanation of the changes. Ephedrine probably causes extrusion into the circulation of erythrocytes, leucocytes and platelets from storage and haemopoietic centres, including the bone marrow.
