The effect of sodium salicylate on the urinary uric acid and allantoin excretion was studied in three dogs on a constant diet before and after renal denervation. 2. The excretion of allantoin was on a lower level postoperatively but showed a typical rise during salicylate medication. 3. The usual uricosuric effect of the salicylates was reversed after section of the renal nerves. Successive studies showed a decrease in this effect, probably associated with regeneration of nerve fibres. 4. A slight decrease in the extent of the total nitrogen rise was seen after operation. 5. There is a reversal of the relationship of chloride to water excretion during salicylate medication which is not altered by denervation. 6. The uricosuric action of the salicylates is apparently dependent upon the renal nerves and is in this respect like that of cinchophen.
