AB Table 5 will serve to summarize the data in condensed form. The symbols ∧ and ∨ are employed for purposes of brevity and signify increase or stimulation, and decrease or depression, respectively. When both symbols appear in the same square the one in the upper left hand corner represents the first reaction. When it is supplemented by the word "plus" the symbol in the lower right hand corner signifies a subsequent change. Many of the squares also contain numerical fractions. These represent the magnitude of the physiological effectiveness, regardless of whether it be depression or stimulation, with respect to that of epinephrine, i.e., the magnitude of the epinephrine effect is designated as 1, and this becomes the numerator of the fractions, with few exceptions. The squares marked with an asterisk indicate that sympathomimetic properties are present.
