Podophyllin whether administered intravenously or injected into the lumen of the gut causes a decrease in the general tonus of the gut and at the same time induces strong peristaltic contractions of the intact intestine in non-anesthetized dogs. 2. Colocynth has the same action upon the intestine as podophyllin. 3. The changes in general tone of the gut are independent of the changes in blood pressure.
