By means of experiments using the artificial heart it is shown that scillaren B produces a rise of blood pressure due to vasoconstriction. Mycardiograph experiments show that the amplitude of the ventricular beat is usually increased. The auricular beat is not improved. With a single dose it may not be greatly affected, though in some instances it may be greatly weakened. Repeated injections are certain to abolish auricular activity. The ventricle, after sufficient scillaren B has been injected, goes into fibrillation. Heart-lung experiments indicate that the cardiac output is frequently improved. ER -
