The antipyretic effects of benzyl benzoate and allied compounds were studied on rabbits. 2. Hyperpyrexia was produced in the animals by the administration of various pharmacological agents and also by performing a heat puncture. 3. Administration of benzyl benzoate and benzyl alcohol by stomach tube in aqueous suspension was followed by more or less fall in temperature depending on the cause of the fever. 4. A pharmacological analysis of this antipyretic effect leads to the conclusion that it is due almost entirely to a greater dissipation of heat through dilatation of the blood vessels and that the drug has practically no narcotic action even when administered in quite large doses.
