A method of mechanically recording alterations in outflow from, and volume of, the liver during perfusion has been described. 2. The addition of Witte's peptone to the perfusion fluid causes in dog's liver (a) a marked reduction in outflow whether the perfusion fluid enters by way of the portal or the hepatic vein; (b) a notable increase in liver volume if the fluid enters by the portal vein, and (c) a decrease in volume if it enters through the hepatic vein. 3. The conclusion seems warranted therefore that Witte's peptone has a specific effect upon the hepatic veins causing an obstruction, probably the result of constriction. ER -
