TY - JOUR T1 - III. A NOTE ON THE INFLUENCE OF SODIUM PHENOBARBITAL UPON THE PERISTALTIC AND ANTIPERISTALTIC ACTIVITY OF THE URETER JF - Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics JO - J Pharmacol Exp Ther SP - 201 LP - 206 VL - 33 IS - 2 AU - CHARLES M. Sodium phenobarbital when added to the solution bathing the pace-maker of a segment of ureter, quickly causes cessation of spontaneous contractions in this segment with decreased height of contractions. In spontaneously rhythmical tissues after the addition of the drug to the bath the other end of the ureter automatically becomes the pace-maker thus if peristalsis originally was present antiperistalsis is produced and vice versa. Sodium phenobarbital in moderate concentrations when added to the bath of the dependent segment effects only the height of the contractions. ER -
