RT Journal Article SR Electronic T1 CONCERNING THE POINT OF ATTACK OF PITUITARY EXTRACT AND HISTAMINE ON SMOOTH MUSCLE JF Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics JO J Pharmacol Exp Ther FD American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics SP 389 OP 393 VO 27 IS 5 A1 DAVID I. MACHT YR 1926 UL http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/27/5/389.abstract AB The above experiments indicate clearly two conclusions. In the first place both pituitary extracts and histamine act directly upon muscle substance without the intermediary of a nervous mechanism. In the second place, the highly potent body A derived by Professor Abel from the pituitary gland also acts directly upon muscle substance but is much more powerful, as little as 1:5,000,000 of it giving a maximal response. This would tend to give additional evidence to that already adduced by Abel and his collaborators in regard to the nature of the pituitary principle.
