Essentially all of the administered dose was accounted for in the excreta after three days, with 35% appearing in the urine. The cyclamate was converted to cyclohexylamine in 83% of the rats; amounts ranged from less than 0.1 to 38%. Small quantities of cyclohexylamine were also found in the feces. No other metabolite was detectable. Although no attempt was made to determine at what stage during the feeding period the conversion of cyclamate to cyclohexylamine took place, prolonged or chronic feeding seemed to potentiate this conversion process. The bile is not an important route of excretion of cyclamate in the rat. © 1970 by The Williams & Wilkins Co.
