Although the dose of reserpine that is equivalent to 10 mg of DMI per kg in its effect on uptake is small (0.1 mg/kg), reserpine at this level retains its ability to deplete. The depleting effects of small doses of reserpine are inhibited by DMI. These and other observations suggest that DMI acts at a site in the membrane which is probably a part of the system for the uptake of norepinephrine and which has some affinity for a variety of amines.
