The influence of isoproterenol and a blocking agent dl-1-(2',4'-dichlorophenyl)-2-t-butylaminoethanol (DCB) on these metabolic functions has been examined. Isoproterenol increased free fatty acid release and produced a pattern of glucose metabolism in this tissue similar to that produced by epinephrine and norepinephrine. DCB, which does not stimulate free fatty acid release, stimulated glucose utilization though not as markedly as isoproterenol. DCB inhibited the release of free fatty acids by adipose tissue exposed to isoproterenol and reduced the effects of the latter compound on glucose metabolism. The Williams & Wilkins Company
