AB Quantitative measurements of the behavioral effects of the serotonin precursor, 5-hydroxy-tryptophan, have been made in pigeons. Intramuscular injections of 25, 50 and 75 mg/kg doses of DL-5-hydroxytryptophan hydrate lowered the bird's rate of responding in proportion to the amount of the conupound injected. Doses below 25 mg/kg had little or no effect.
