Pressures were measured at 4 sites along the length of the foreleg vascular bed while the rate of blood flow in the brachial artery was held constant. Each combination resulted in net constriction but in the case of epinephrine and levarterenol the constriction was less than the sum of the constrictions of the two agents administered separately. This resulted from an antagonistic action of serotonin and the catecholamines upon small blood vessels. Each of the pressor agents potentiated the venous constrictor action of serotonin. ER -
