Arsenate exerted a marked positive inotropic effect in glucose and substrate-free media, and a slight or no positive inotropic effect in a pyruvate medium. Glucose potentiated the positive inotropic effect of arsenate in a pyruvate medium. It is proposed that the energy for the positive inotropic effect is derived from glucose metabolism. ER -
