Perfusion with 5-hydroxytryptophane, the precursor of 5-HT, together with iproniazid led to the appearance of 5-HT within 5 minutes. The appearance of 5-HT in the effluent in either case was not dependent upon stimulation of the cervical sympathetic trunk. Once 5-HT began to appear, it continued to appear regardlss of nerve stimulation. The implications of these findings to the transmission process are discussed. ER -
