Of the ions, only Fe++ was active. The results of similar studies with oxy-, chlor-, and tetracycline in which one algal and ten bacterial species were employed are briefly reviewed. With each strain either Fe++ or Mg++ or both were the strongest drug-reversing ions. The active ions varied with the microbial species and with the type of medium employed but not with the kind of tetracycline compound.
