McDonald YR 1955 UL http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/114/1/51.abstract AB Inflammation was induced in rats by the injection of croton oil, and the Qo2, of the inflamed tissue was determined. The addition of adenylate to the homogenates was found to increase the Qo2, The Qo2 was found to be increased after the injection of hydrocortisone into the granuloma pouches but this effect was not observed when the hydrocortisone was replaced by either desoxycorticosterone, progesterone, or cholesterol. The effects observed with hydrocortisone were not observed in vitro, but rather were observed only with homogenates prepared from the tissue from animals previously injected with hydrocortisone.
