TY - JOUR T1 - THE ACTION OF ACETYLCHOLINE AND ESERINE ON SPONTANEOUS MUSCULAR MOVEMENT IN FISH EMBRYOS JF - Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics JO - J Pharmacol Exp Ther SP - 257 LP - 260 VL - 112 IS - 2 AU - Floyd J. Acetylcholine and eserine have no significant effect on the muscular activity of uninnervated somatic muscles. 2. The action of both drugs on the innervated muscles results in an initial stimulation, followed by tetany and finally a refractory period. 3. The place of action of acetylcholine appears to be on the motor end plate. 4. There seems to be no significant difference between the effect of exogenous acetylcholine and endogenous acetylcholine which is allowed to accumulate by inactivation of the cholinesterase with eserine.
