The concentration of the drug in the various tissues declines rapidly and in a parallel manner. The concentration of thiopental in fat, at first low, rises rapidly so that the major part of the drug is ultimately localized in the body fat. It is concluded that thiopental is ultra-short acting after a small dose, not because of its metabolic transformation, which is slow, but because it is rapidly localized in fat.
