AB  - The daily intravenous administration of thyroxin to dogs causes a marked increase in the glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, tubular transport of dextrose and p-aminohippurate and an increase in renal oxygen consumption. All these changes are proportional and appear to be best explained by assuming that thyroxin increases the number of functional nephrons in the kidney and not to a direct effect on enzyme systems of the renal tubules. Such a concept is in accord with the diuretic action of thyroxin.
