• Data Supplement - Supplemental Fig. 1: COX1 and COX2 activity was determined in whole blood samples obtained at 0800 hours in the rofecoxib and salt fat control groups. No significant differences were observed (n=4 per group).
• Data Supplement - Supplemental Fig. 2: Effects of treatment on mean arterial blood pressure in stroke prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR-SP) on a normal diet (ND) or a salt-fat diet (SFD). Following a 4 day run in period, SFD with or without treatment with rofecoxib (3.6 mg/kg/day) was begun at time 0 when animals were 12 weeks of age. The ND group differed significantly from SFD and SFD rofecoxib groups from day 13 to the end of study by two-ANOVA for repeated measures and Bonferroni test for multiple comparisons (n=8 per group). There were no significant differences between SFD and SFD + rofecoxib (3.6 mg/kg/day).
• Data Supplement - Supplemental Fig 3: Urinary albumin excretion was determined at baseline prior to introduction of the salt fat diet (SFD) and at 2, 4 and 6 weeks of the study in all groups.
