Abstract
1. Tetraethylammonium in high concentrations has an action by itself. It increases the contractions of the frog's heart.
2. It antagonizes in concentrations below those augmenting the heart beats, the depressant actions not only of vagomimetic quarternary bases but also those of tertiary bases as pilocarpine and arecoline and of potassium.
3. Possible mechanisms of these antagonisms are discussed.
