Abstract
1. Ergometrine caused no evident increase in activity in rhythmically contracting isolated strips from pregnant and nonpregnant human uteri and Fallopian tubes, and had only a minor action on quiescent preparations.
2. It caused the rapid onset of vigorous regular contractions in quiescent strips from the post-partum uterus of the guinea pig, but was ineffective with rhythmic preparations.
3. Ergometrine in strong concentrations caused reversal of the action of adrenaline upon the human uterus and Fallopian tubes.
