Abstract
The apparent ionization constants of the hypnotics phenobarbital, barbital, amytal, pentobarbital and evipal have been determined. From these the hydrolysis of the sodium salts, and the acid-salt ratios at the pH of blood have been estimated. These values are such that there is no apparent correlation between them and the rate of onset of the anesthesia.
