Abstract
1. A method is described for the estimation of phenolic compounds in the urine and feces.
2. 6-Hexyl-m-cresol, when given by mouth to dogs, is excreted in small amounts, 4.4 to 8 per cent in the urine and irregular amounts in the feces.
3. 6-Decyl-m-cresol is not excreted in the urine.
4. Hexylresorcinol, when given in 1 gram doses to man, is excreted in both urine and feces—about 18 per cent in the urine and 64 per cent in the feces.
5. Thymol, when given in 1 and 3 gram doses to dogs, is excreted only in the urine; about 34 per cent of the 1 gram dose and about 23 per cent of the 3 gram dose were recovered from the urine. In no animal was there any thymol found in the feces.
