Since its founding in 1909, The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (JPET) has provided authors with a forum for the communication of rigorous research on all aspects of pharmacology as well as translation of these advances into effective therapies. The role of JPET as a journal of choice in the field of pharmacology is a reflection of the Editorial Board’s commitment to publish only the highest quality pharmacological research.
During the last 6 years, it has been my honor and privilege to serve the journal. JPET has continued to evolve to better serve its readership. Notable examples include the increased participation of ASPET members as Associate Editors and members of the Editorial Advisory Board, the establishment of Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine, and the growth of Perspectives and Minireviews as robust sections of the journal. Key initiatives that enhance the transparency of JPET have been the establishment of authorship criteria and acknowledgments, the elimination of reference limits, and the implementation of iThenticate and image forensics during peer review. Author support has also been improved with the elimination of manuscript handling fees for ASPET members and a PDF disbursement option for accepted articles. Finally, JPET has provided strong support for the ASPET/BPS/Wiley collaborative open-access journal Pharmacology Research & Perspectives through its manuscript referral process.
I thank the many dedicated reviewers, Editorial Advisory Board, and Associate Editors for their contributions to the journal. I also thank my Assistant Editors, Keith Glaser and Scott Mittelstadt, and the JPET staff, Cassie Wood, Dianne King-McGavin, Jill Filler, and Rich Dodenhoff, for their tireless energy and indispensable efforts in managing the daily operations of the journal. I am extremely grateful for the patience and guidance provided by Mary Vore and Jim Barrett during my tenure as Editor. Dr. Ken Tew becomes Editor on January 1, 2016, and I am confident that JPET will continue to flourish under his excellent leadership.
