Abstract
The action of strychnine sulfate and picrotoxin sulfate on ribosomes of goat brain cortex has been studied. The drugs do not affect the chemical and nucleotide composition or the ultraviolet absorption characteristics of the ribosomal particles. During the action of the drugs on brain cortex slices the ribosomal particles become more susceptible to breakdown, releasing protein, ribonucleic acid and acidsoluble nucleotides into the medium and resulting in the loss of ribosomal enzyme acyivity.
