    Abstract

    The catecholamine content of uteri from rats, rabbits and humans was characterized by a high fractional concentration of epinephrine relative to norepinephrine. The concentration of epinephrine was greater than that of norepinephrine in the human uterus. The concentrations of epinephrine in the uterus were elevated during estrus in the rat and during the proliferative phase of the menstrual cycle in the human. During pregnancy, the concentrations of both epinephrine and norepinephrine were reduced.
