Abstract
Chronic fighting behavior may be induced in certain male mice by isolation. An assay procedure for the analysis of inhibitory effects of drugs on this behavior phenomenon is described in detail.
The results obtained in this and four previously described screening tests in mice with a series of 29 selected compounds are reported.
Typical pharmacological profiles are described for the following types of drugs : 1) tertiary atropine-like amines with "selective" anti-fighting activity; 2) tertiary and quaternary atropine-like amines without selective anti-fighting activity; 3) N-(3-dimethylamino-propyl)-2-R-phenothiazines; 4) N-(3-(4'-R-piperazinopropyl))-2-chloro-phenothiazines and haloperidol (neuroleptics); 5) morphine-like analgesics; 6) barbiturates and meprobamate.
