Abstract
Ambonestyl exerted a negative chronotropic and a positive inotropic action upon spontaneously-contracting isolated rabbit atria. Quinidine exerted a negative chronotropic and a negative inotropic action.
The Na, K and H2O content and the inulin space of isolated rabbit atria were not altered by exposure to quinidine or Ambonestyl and it is concluded that the pharmacological effects of these two agents on the atria cannot be due to drug-induced changes in the Na, K or H2O content of these cells.
